Together, We Are Champions for Children in Poughkeepsie City Schools
Last week, Superintendent of Schools Gregory Mott visited Roy Watterson's youth football camp, offered for free annually on the Poughkeepsie High School football field. Five days a week for six weeks, Watterson and his instructors offer football and life lessons, in addition to breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks to any city resident aged 5-17 who attends.
Mott spoke with Watterson about what it takes to keep the camp running and its importance, before addressing the campers. Mott discussed with them how the lessons taught through team sports can be transferred to commitment in the classroom, with the ultimate goal of graduating on time.
This year's camp runs Monday through Friday through Aug. 8.
