Computer-Based Testing simulation this week for grades 3-8
Poughkeepsie City School District students in grades 3-8 will take part in a Computer-Based Testing, or CBT, simulation, this week. This provides students with a valuable experience navigating the online testing system used for statewide assessment each spring.
Students in grades 3-8 each year participate in New York State-mandated testing in English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science, which for the past several years has phased in the CBT format.
This simulation is a great opportunity for students to become familiar with taking online exams in a non-graded setting, giving them the best possible chance of excelling in the spring.
All students in Clinton, Smith, Warring and Poughkeepsie Middle School on Tuesday, Feb. 3 will take the ELA simulation, followed by Math on Feb. 4 and Science on Feb. 5.
While students will not be graded on their performance their participation will provide the district with valuable feedback and afford students an additional level of comfort with the format moving forward.
Practice samplers for all grades and content areas are posted through https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice, enabling students and families to see exactly what will be experienced next week. The samplers being used are ELA and Math sampler No. 4, grade 5 Science will be working with sampler No. 1, and grade 8 Science will have sampler No. 2.
We encourage all families to take this simulation seriously for students to make best use of this practice opportunity.
